This popular houseplant (Monstera deliciosa) contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing the leaves or stems causes these sharp crystals to embed in the mouth and throat, causing immediate pain, intense oral irritation, drooling, and difficulty swallowing.

Keep this plant out of your cat's reach. If ingestion occurs, rinse the mouth with water or milk and contact your vet immediately. Monitor for swelling.
