This plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing on the plant releases these sharp crystals, causing immediate burning pain, swelling of the mouth and throat, drooling, and difficulty swallowing.

Keep this plant away from cats. If ingestion occurs, rinse the cat's mouth with milk or water and contact your vet immediately. Monitor for swelling and respiratory distress.
