Like all Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane) varieties, this plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. When the plant is chewed, these crystals cause immediate and severe pain, burning, and swelling of the mouth, tongue, and lips.

Keep all Dieffenbachia plants far away from cats. If ingestion occurs, it is a medical emergency. Rinse the mouth with milk or water and contact your vet immediately.
